Geology Field Camp is the capstone experience in most undergraduate geology programs.  It provides students the opportunity to apply their accumulated knowledge and skills to the investigation and interpretation of unfamiliar geologic areas.

The Department of Geography-Geology at Illinois State University offers a 6 semester-hour course in traditional Field Geology.  We have been teaching this highly successful course for over three decades.  We require this course for our B.S. degree candidates and welcome applications from geology majors at other universities.

External students are welcome.  If you are interested in enrolling in our Field Camp, for full consideration please complete the application and health information and return the form to Dr. David Malone dhmalon@ilstu.edu at your earliest convenience.  Most admission decisions are made by early February.  We try to hold some spaces open for hardship cases through mid April.  Please feel free to contact us through April 30 to see if space is still available.

Ben is an alumni of the ISU-Western Kentucky Field Camp

It is with great sadness that we announce that former Geology major Benjamin Campbell passed away this past Friday morning in Oklahoma.  Ben was an energetic, creative presence in the department. He earned one of the alltime highest scores on the ACAT and did some great research on metal ores associated with the Magnet Cove carbonatite. He was the first student here, during my time, who really understood and used reflected light microscopy in his work.

Ben married his sweetheart Amy last Fall – and they had the COOLEST wedding cake ever!He was looking forward to pursuing a M.S. in the fall at University of Kentucky.

Funeral services for Benjamin Campbell will be at Cone Funeral Home, 1510 Campbell Lane, Bowling Green, KY.
Visitation Wed 1-8pm, and Thurs 9am-2pm with service to follow at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Benjamin Campbell Memorial Fund" at PNC Bank.

Amy is hoping for stories, pictures, remembrances… of Ben – if you have these to contribute, please send them to me and I’ll pass them along.

 Thank you.
