Douglas Clay Ridgley Lecturer

Dr. Jerome E. Dobson, Professor of Geography at the University of Kansas and President of the American Geographical Society, is the Douglas Clay Ridgley Lecturer for the 2007-2008 academic year. The Ridgley Lecture, "Restoring Geography in America," will take place on Friday, November 9, in the Billiards & Bowling Center at 4:00 p.m. The public is welcome. Dr. Dobson will be giving another public lecture on Friday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. in Felmley 327 entitled "The American Geographical Society: Renewing Timeless Misisons".  George and Martha Means donated funds to support the annual Ridgley Lecture, and associated events. Professor Ridgley was the first chair of the Department of Geography at Illinois State Normal University and an early leader in the development of Geography nationwide.

Annual Geography Career Fair 

Every spring the Department hosts the Annual Geography Career Fair.  The event has been key to maintaining a strong ties with our alumni and representatives from private industry, who share with our current students their professional successes and opportunities.  Representatives of numerous employers also participate in our Fair to talk about their organization and career opportunities for our students with them.

GGGeo Seminar

GGGeo is a colloquium series organized by our department, which integrates the three major departmental foci, namely Geography, Geology and Hydrogeology.  Invited speakers in these and related areas come from outside the University, from other departments within the University, and from within our department.  Talks are usually presented each Friday afternoon at 3:00 in Felmley 209.
